I've had a camera in my hand ever since I can remember, picking up my parents camera so I could shoot the things I found interesting. In high school I naturally gravitated to photography studies. The camera has been a part of my life at all stages, while I constantly experimented with shooting. I studied Fine Art Photography at UCLA, as well as a semester of Cinematography. I shot handheld "3rd camera" on a high end music video in the days when there was such a thing! What a treat seeing my shots on MTV.
Still photography, however, is my passion. I began shooting as a Set Stills Photographer, working first on music videos, and then feature films for many years. A natural progression from this was to begin shooting actors headshots, as I received many requests for this while working on sets. Eventually, this became my full time work, as filming of feature films moved out of Los Angeles. With many years of experience, a love for my work and an interest in people, I'll get great headshots for you. Let's do it!
I like to have fun and make shooting your Headshots an enjoyable, stress-free experience. I shoot in natural light settings, exteriors, using nature's elements, with added enhancement, to create light and composition.
I shoot only one client per day, so there's ample time for us to work and get to know each other. Makeup and changing takes place in my comfortable 1919 historical apartment in Hollywood.
Arrive camera-ready, unless you have booked a makeup artist. If you've booked a makeup artist, arrive with clean skin wearing no makeup. Hair should be styled as you normally wear it, unless other arrangements have been made.
All of your Headshots are shot in digital RAW format which produces the best skin tones and quality image. I will work with you on wardrobe to get the best look for you.
Exterior shooting takes place in the afternoons, ending into the "magic hour" (about an hour before sunset) for the best light. Therefore, shooting time will vary with the seasons. I also shoot interior studio if that is preferred, or a combination.
Digital RAW photography, when done correctly, requires time in the "digital darkroom" to make the images look their best. Due to the practices of some photography businesses, a lot of people expect a CD immediately following their photosession. I do things a little differently, however; instead of burning a CD and saying "see ya later!", I take the time to go through and edit all of your Headshots. I sharpen, adjust contrast/color, smooth skin tones, tweak and re-tweak all of the images to look the way I want them to look, which is great! I'm all about quality! That way, you'll be able to easily choose your best shots. Your final prepped proofs will be available in about a week or so after our shoot and will be sent digitally via Dropbox. It takes time to work on these images, so be patient!
After our initial Headshot consultation, bring 6-10 clothing options, depending on your package. It's best to wear medium shades in colors that enhance your eyes, hair and skin. Solids can get boring, so bring layering options such as denim jacket, sweatshirt, cardigan, v-neck sweater, jacket, etc. Fitted looks are better; please, NO oversized clothing. Keep buttons, pockets and collars simple and to a minimum. No jewelry or big earrings. We don't want anything to distract the eye away from YOUR eyes! Avoid loud patterns and NO white.
$150 for one look (natural makeup & a little hair prep). I highly recommend make up and hair to my clients for a professional look. For children under 12, makeup isn't usually necessary, however it can help to have a professional look with hair mostly. ***If you're doing your own makeup, please remember--you want to look like you do every day--these are not glamour shots. And please use matte makeup and lipstick, preferably for HD, and no sparkles or metallic products. Take it easy on the mascara! Too much spiky mascara will skew autofocus on cameras, and also doesn't look natural. The goal here is to look very natural.
Men $150. Women $150 one look; $175 two looks. The makeup artist stays for the entire shoot to make sure you look your best.
Please style your own hair as you normally wear it. The makeup/hair artist can do light hair prep/styling for a professional look. If you need complete hair styling, there will be an extra charge. Some clients go to their hairdresser for styling, before a shoot.
Basic retouching is available at $25 per image. This includes adjusting contrast, light, color correction, touching up skin flaws, stray hairs & shadows, and whitening of eyes and/or teeth. Further more detailed retouching can be done for additional cost to be determined. I'm not a graphic artist, so if it's beyond my techinical capability, Argentum Photo Lab offers expert advanced retouching.
You have the option of viewing your photos on a secure interactive website at Argentum Photo Lab in Hollywood; cost is $20. Agents, and others you authorize, can view your best picks. You can choose your favorites and put them in a separate file. My clients also receive a 20% discount on any orders placed at Argentum Photo Lab, located in Hollywood. They are the best photo lab around, too!
